Terms of use
Last updated
This site is general information, not veterinary advice, and reading it does not make us your vet. It is carefully sourced and it can still be wrong or out of date for your animal. If your pet is unwell or has eaten something worrying, call a vet or a poison control line rather than relying on a web page.
Agreeing to these terms
isitpetfood.com is operated by Lotuzen Tech LLC. By using the site you agree to what is on this page. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
What this site is
Each page answers one question about one food for one species, written in plain language from published veterinary sources, with those sources listed at the bottom of the page so you can read them yourself.
What this site is not
It is not veterinary advice, and it is not a diagnosis. Nothing here is a professional opinion about your animal. We have not examined your pet, we do not know its age, weight, breed, medical history, medications, or what else it ate today, and all of those change the answer.
Using this site does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. That relationship is what allows a veterinarian to diagnose, prescribe, and treat, and it requires a licensed vet who has actually examined your animal. Reading a page here is not a substitute for it and does not begin one.
Your vet overrules this site. If something here disagrees with what your veterinarian told you about your animal, follow your veterinarian.
In an emergency, stop reading
If your pet has eaten something you are worried about, or is unwell, contact a veterinarian immediately. In the United States you can also call:
- ASPCA Poison Control, (888) 426-4435, 24 hours a day
- Pet Poison Helpline, (855) 764-7661, 24 hours a day
Both lines charge a consultation fee. Do not induce vomiting unless a vet or one of these lines tells you to. Time matters more than research does.
Accuracy, and its limits
We work from sources like the Merck Veterinary Manual, ASPCA Animal Poison Control, VCA Hospitals, and published veterinary literature, and we cite them. We say so when those sources disagree rather than picking a side, and we say when no safe amount has been established rather than inventing one.
Even so, veterinary understanding changes, sources are revised, and pages here can fall behind or contain mistakes. We do not promise that anything on this site is complete, current, or correct for your animal, and you should not treat it as the last word.
Using the site
You may read, print, and share these pages for your own use, and link to them freely. Please do not scrape or bulk copy the site, republish substantial parts of it as your own, use it to train a model without permission, or interfere with how it runs for other people.
Who owns what
The writing, design, and code on this site belong to Lotuzen Tech LLC. The sources we cite belong to the organizations that published them, and linking to them is not a claim on their work or an endorsement by them of ours.
Links to other sites
We link out to veterinary sources and other references. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they say, what they do with your data, or whether their links still work.
Advertising and affiliate links
This site may carry advertising and affiliate links. Anything we earn a commission from is disclosed on the page it appears on, and money never decides a verdict. A food is safe or it is not, and no advertiser gets to change that.
Advertising and analytics also change what is collected about you. What those tools gather, the cookies involved, and how to refuse them are set out in the privacy policy.
No warranty
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy. We do not warrant that the site will be available, uninterrupted, or error free.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lotuzen Tech LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss, injury, illness, veterinary cost, or death of an animal, arising out of your use of this site or your reliance on anything published here. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to one hundred United States dollars.
Some places do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as that jurisdiction permits. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes
We may update the site or these terms. When the terms change substantively we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state and federal courts located in Oakland County, Michigan, and you and we agree to that venue.
